Haryana transport department assistant caught taking Rs 2 lakh bribe

Panchkula, Sep 23 (UNI) The Haryana State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB) has arrested an assistant posted with the state transport department in Chandigarh for allegedly accepting a Rs 2 lakh bribe from a transporter, a spokesman said here on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Kishori Kumar, was caught red-handed by the Bureau's Bhiwani sub-centre team while allegedly accepting Rs 2 lakh in cash from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses, the spokesman said.
According to the Bureau, the complainant is engaged in the transport business and wishes to set up a facility in Panipat to issue and renew fitness certificates for transport vehicles under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The complainant required the necessary permission from the office of the Haryana Transport Commissioner in Chandigarh. The spokesman said the complainant alleged that Kumar demanded Rs 2 lakh as a bribe, threatening that permanent permission or authorisation would otherwise not be issued, in connection with a permission already issued by the Transport Commissioner's office on August 27, 2026.
Acting on the complaint, the SV&ACB's Bhiwani team laid a trap in accordance with procedure and arrested Kumar while he was allegedly accepting the Rs 2 lakh cash bribe.
A case — FIR No. 35 dated September 23, 2026 — has been registered against the accused at the SV&ACB police station in Hisar under Section 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, the spokesman said.
Further investigation is underway.
