Himachal govt sanctions Rs 2 crore for Kareri development, Rs 50 lakh works launched

Dharamshala, Oct 18 (UNI) Shahpur MLA and Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, on Sunday, laid the foundation stone for development works worth Rs 50 lakh at Kareri trek and lake in Kangra district, aimed at promoting tourism, expanding infrastructure and protecting the area's natural environment.
Pathania expressed gratitude to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and said Kareri was blessed with natural beauty, rich hill culture and immense tourism potential.
He stated Kareri trek and lake could emerge as major tourist attractions not only for Kangra district but also for the entire state.
The Deputy Chief Whip said around Rs 2 crore had been sanctioned for the development of the trek and other works, keeping the requirements of the area in view. The foundation stone for a development project costing Rs 50 lakh was laid on Sunday.
He noted that local residents would be involved in tourism development initiatives, adding that efforts would be made to train local youth as tourist guides and equip them with skills related to trekking, mountaineering and other tourism services.
Appealing to residents to preserve Kareri's natural beauty, Pathania urged them to promote cleanliness and environmental awareness among visitors. He said sustainable development, maintaining a balance between tourism and nature, was essential to establish Kareri as an attractive destination.
He also stressed the need to improve connectivity to Kareri, saying the government would coordinate with the concerned departments to undertake the necessary work.
Pathania said the state government, under CM Sukhu's leadership, was committed to rural development, addressing public grievances and exploring new tourism opportunities. Ensuring that the benefits of development schemes reached the last person remained a priority, he added.
He said transport, tourism, roads, electricity, drinking water and other essential facilities were being strengthened in Kareri and neighbouring villages.
Rattan praised Pathania's efforts towards the overall development of Shahpur constituency, saying his initiatives had accelerated development activities in the area.
