HP: Anti-drug walkathon marks launch of Durgeshwar Mahadev Dal Lake fair

Dharamshala, Sep 18 (UNI) The Durgeshwar Mahadev Dal Lake fair began on Friday with an anti-drug awareness walkathon led by Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania.
The walkathon, organised from Tangle Mor to Dal Lake under the anti-Chitta campaign, saw enthusiastic participation from school students, district administration officials and employees, teachers and local residents.
Carrying placards bearing anti-drug messages and raising slogans, the participants urged people, particularly the youth, to stay away from drugs.
On the occasion, Pathania administered an anti-drug pledge to the students and called upon them to remain away from intoxicants and motivate their friends, families and other members of society to do the same.
He said the fight against drugs was not the sole responsibility of the government or administration and required the active participation of every section of society.
Parents, teachers, social organisations and local communities should work together to protect youngsters from substance abuse, he added. He also urged youth to engage in sports, education and constructive activities and adopt a healthy and positive lifestyle.
Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma appealed to the public to cooperate with the campaign against drugs. He said police were taking continuous action against drug trafficking and consumption, including action against properties linked to the illegal drug trade.
Verma urged people to share information about illegal drug activities with the police and strengthen collective efforts against drug abuse.
He also highlighted the stringent legal provisions related to prevention of drug trafficking and abuse.
During the walkathon, participants spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs among the public, devotees and tourists visiting the Dal Lake fair and called for collective efforts to create a drug-free society.
Himachal Pradesh Wool Federation Chairman Manoj Thakur, Shahpur SDM Ganesh Thakur and Dharamshala SDM Mohit Rattan, besides officials of the district administration, employees of various departments, teachers, students and local residents, were present.
