Jharkhand: BJP attacks Congress over ECI's SIR clarification

Ranchi, Sep 27 (UNI) Jharkhand BJP president Aditya Sahu on Sunday criticised the Congress over the Election Commission's clarification that decisions related to the SIR were taken unanimously.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office in Ranchi, Sahu said the Election Commission's statement had clarified that the decisions taken by the poll panel, including those related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), had the approval of the full Commission.
The Election Commission said in its statement issued after a meeting on Sep 26 that the SIR order issued on June 24, 2025 for all States and union Territories was approved unanimously by the Commission. It also said the schedules for different phases of the exercise were issued with the unanimous approval of the Commission.
Sahu said the Congress and other Opposition parties had raised questions over the functioning of constitutional institutions without sufficient basis.
He said a letter sent to the Cabinet Secretary was related to the functioning of an officer on deputation to the Election Commission and was not related to any policy matter of the Commission or its IT division.
Sahu also referred to the Election Commission's clarification regarding Form 6 used in the SIR process. The Commission said persons whose names were left out during the SIR or thereafter could apply for inclusion in electoral rolls under the continuous updation process.
He alleged that the Congress had repeatedly questioned the Election Commission, Supreme Court and other constitutional institutions for political reasons.
Sahu also criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his earlier statements concerning the Election Commission, electronic voting machines and the armed forces.
He alleged that the Congress questioned the credibility of institutions and the country's security forces. These were political allegations made by Sahu and were not independently established in his remarks.
Sahu said the BJP wanted every eligible citizen to have the right to vote and referred to measures announced by the Election Commission for voters whose names were left out during the SIR.
The Election Commission said booth-level officers would visit the homes of persons who received notices over unmapped or logical discrepancies to collect documents, while hearings would be held only in exceptional cases, preferably online.
