Jharkhand: FIR against BJP MLA under SC/ST Act over remark on CM’s mother

Garhwa, Oct 5 (UNI) An FIR has been registered against BJP MLA Satyendra Nath Tiwari under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and other provisions following a complaint over his alleged remarks about Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s mother Roopi Soren, police said.
The FIR was registered at Ranka police station on the complaint of Shravan Singh Kharwar, who alleged that Tiwari had made objectionable and insulting remarks about Rupi Soren in a video circulating on social media.
Ranka police station in-charge Vishnukant said a case had been registered under the SC/ST Act and other relevant provisions on the basis of the complaint, and an investigation had begun.
The case also involves provisions cited by the complainant under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
The complainant alleged that the video caused him personal hurt and sought legal action against the MLA, claiming that the remarks were insulting to the Scheduled Tribe community.
Tiwari’s MLA representative, Vivekanand Tiwari, said anyone could submit a complaint and that they would present their side in the matter.
The alleged remarks and the authenticity and context of the video are subject to investigation.
