Bhubaneswar, May 24 (UNI) Junior Engineer Susanta Kumar Sethy was arrested on Saturday by Odisha Vigilance on charges of possessing disproportionate assets.
Sethy, who was working at Khariar under the Nuapada R&B Division, will be produced today before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, according to Vigilance sources.
The Junior Engineer was found to be in possession of disproportionate assets, including three multi-storeyed buildings, one farmhouse, nine high-value plots, and two expensive four-wheelers (including one benami vehicle).
He also had deposits amounting to Rs.55 lakhs and household articles worth over Rs.14 lakhs — all of which he failed to account for satisfactorily.
Vigilance sources further revealed that Sethy had hidden a large amount of ill-gotten money —Rs.55 lakhs in cash and 1.4 kg of gold — in the house of his tenant to evade detection during Vigilance raids.
However, the tenant allegedly misappropriated the valuables.
In connection with this, Sethy’s spouse filed an FIR at Dhauli Police Station on April 13, 2024, against the tenant for failing to return the cash and gold. The case is currently under investigation by the Dhauli Police.
The cash and gold ornaments are suspected to be ill-gotten assets belonging to Sethy, and their origins are being verified by the Vigilance..
