Kishan Reddy bats for 'One Nation, One Election'; calls it key to India's progress

Hyderabad, May 18 (UNI) As part of the nationwide awareness campaign on the "One Nation - One Election" initiative, BJP State President and Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy, participated as the chief guest in a program held at Hotel Katriya in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, Kishan Reddy emphasised the need for electoral reforms in the country, stating that holding simultaneous elections is crucial for improving governance efficiency and minimising disruptions.
“Even after 76 years of independence, we continue to follow colonial-era systems. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently advocated for reforming outdated laws in line with present-day political and economic realities,” he said.
He asserted that frequent elections across states disrupt administrative work, cause significant loss of manpower and resources, and hinder development. “If elections are held simultaneously across the country, it would save valuable time and energy and facilitate smoother governance,” he said.
Reddy urged political parties, intellectuals, analysts, and civil society to engage with the public on this issue and build a broad-based consensus. “This should become a people's movement. Only then can we bring about real transformation,” he noted.
The minister cited major reforms brought under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership—such as GST implementation, abrogation of Article 370, the abolition of Triple Talaq, and the introduction of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)—as examples of bold decision-making.
“These were not easy decisions. They required determination and the will to do what is right for the nation. Modi ji’s leadership made them possible,” he added.
Speaking on national security, Kishan Reddy said that under the Modi government, India has shifted from a passive stance to a proactive approach.
“Earlier, we only condemned terror attacks with candlelight vigils. Today, we respond with precision strikes, even on foreign soil. Operations like 'Sindoor' are proof of our government's resolve,” he said.
He also highlighted the rapid development of infrastructure, including national highways and railway stations, and said that continuous elections hinder such developmental momentum.
“This is not just about electoral reform. It’s about ensuring uninterrupted progress for our country and a better future for the next generation,” he stated.
Calling for unified support, Kishan Reddy appealed to all sections of society to think beyond politics. “This is not just a policy discussion—it’s about the nation’s future. Intellectuals, youth, and citizens must engage, discuss, and create awareness about One Nation, One Election,” he said.
