Literary Conferences Should Become a Movement Rather Than Remain Formal Events

Pune, Oct 30 (UNI) Literary conferences should evolve into a continuous movement rather than remain formal events, said Dr Sadanand More, Chairman of the Maharashtra State Board of Literature and Culture, while addressing the concluding session of the 17th Nandi Literary Conference at Alandi, near here, on Friday.
He said the long tradition of literary conferences was a significant part of the richness of the Marathi language. The series of Nandi literary conferences organised in connection with the 100th Marathi Literary Conference would help create a new literary environment across Maharashtra, he added.
The conference was jointly organised by the World Peace Centre, Alandi, MAEER's MIT Pune, Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad and the Marathi Language Department of the Maharashtra government.
Dr Ulhas Pawar presided over the concluding session. MAEER's MIT World Peace University's Founder-President Prof Dr Vishwanath Karad, Khed MLA Babaji Kale and National Book Trust Director Rajesh Pande were among those present.
Dr More said Marathi was a rich language whose early literary figures had set exceptionally high standards of literary expression. Preserving this linguistic and literary heritage was the responsibility of its speakers, he added.
Dr Pawar said the teachings of saints could provide direction to the world. The 'Pasaydan' of Sant Dnyaneshwar had reached the United Nations office and emerged as a universal prayer, reflecting the global significance of the saint tradition and Marathi culture, he said.
Rajesh Pande said the Nandi conferences were not merely intended to review the present state of Marathi literature but also to lay a strong foundation for the language to remain relevant and grow and adapt to the digital era over the next 100 years.
MLA Babaji Kale stressed the need to take pride in the Marathi language and said it was important to spread the humanist values of saint literature among people.
Prof Swati Karad-Chate said the teachings of saint literature should guide society's transition from pilgrimage centres to centres of knowledge. She also emphasised the need to introduce saint literature into the education system to develop an interest in literature among students. UNI SP CDS
