Maha: BJP's Ban asks Rohit Pawar to study Constitution

Mumbai, Oct 6 (UNI) BJP Maharashtra chief spokesperson Navnath Ban on Tuesday accused NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar of making misleading statements about the resignation of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) chairman and asked him to study the Constitution.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office, Ban said the resignation of the MPSC chairman is submitted to the Governor or the President under Article 317 of the Constitution, and not to the Chief Minister.
He alleged that Pawar was claiming that the MPSC chairman had submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister. "Rohit Pawar should first study the Constitution and understand the legal provisions governing the MPSC chairman," Ban said.
Ban also criticised Pawar over the ongoing agitation by students concerning the MPSC. He alleged that the movement had failed to receive adequate support from students and claimed that workers of Baramati Agro had been brought in to participate.
Referring to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray's participation in the agitation, Ban said Thackeray had pointed out that the MPSC chairman enjoys legal protection under the relevant constitutional provisions and that even a future state government could not simply remove the chairman.
Ban further criticised Pawar's political background and alleged that he had entered the Assembly because of his family's political legacy. He also accused Pawar of using social media supporters against BJP workers.
Reacting to Pawar's alleged remarks against BJP MLA Vikram Pachpute during the agitation, Ban questioned whether the protest was genuinely a student movement or had acquired a political character. If political slogans and statements against elected representatives are being made during an MPSC agitation, Maharashtra must decide whether the movement is about students' issues or politics, Ban said.
