Maha: Jarange challenges Kadam over Rs 500-crore audio clip, seeks source protection guarantee

Mumbai, Oct 24 (UNI) Escalating the political slugfest over the controversial Rs 500-crore audio clip, Maratha quota agitation leader Manoj Jarange Patil, on Saturday, launched a frontal attack on Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam, questioning his prior access to the recording and challenging the ruling alliance to hold a transparent inquiry.
Addressing a press conference, Jarange hit back at Kadam for targeting him, pointing out suspicious discrepancies regarding the timeline of the leaked file. He questioned how Kadam managed to broadcast a clipped 20-to-30-second portion mentioning MP Dr Shrikant Shinde on a television channel hours before his own official press briefing.
"Did I defame Eknath Shinde and Shrikant Shinde, or did Ramdas Kadam?" Jarange asked sharply, casting doubt over the internal dynamics and intentions of the ruling camp. He challenged that if Kadam already possessed the full context, dates, and core details of the recording, the Home Department should extract the clip directly from him rather than demanding it from others.
Laying down a condition for cooperation, Jarange stated that he is fully prepared to hand over the audio clip to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, provided they offer a legal guarantee ensuring the absolute safety and anonymity of his confidential source.
Accusing the ruling parties of conspiring behind closed doors against the Maratha community, Jarange warned that while the coalition might attempt to bury the conversation to shield themselves, he will not back down.
He further asserted that while he holds no personal animosity toward Eknath Shinde, he will wage an uncompromising battle if attempts are made to review and revoke the four lakh Kunbi caste certificates vital for the future of Maratha youths.
