Maha: Teacher sentenced to life imprisonment for alleged sexual assault of minor girl in Guhagar

Ratnagiri, Oct 24 (UNI) A special court in Chiplun has sentenced teacher Uday Namdev Velhal to life imprisonment and imposed a fine on him in a serious case involving the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl in Guhagar taluka of Ratnagiri district.
The incident took place in March 2020, when the victim was studying in Class II at a school in the taluka.
According to information available in the case, the girl's mother lodged a complaint at the Guhagar police station after the incident came to light. The police subsequently initiated an investigation and took legal action against the accused teacher.
During the trial, the prosecution examined a total of 10 witnesses to establish its case. Special Senior Public Prosecutor Pushparaj Shashikant Shetye represented the prosecution before the court.
After considering the evidence presented and the testimonies of the witnesses, Judge D. B. Mhaltkar sentenced Velhal to life imprisonment and imposed a fine.
The verdict has once again highlighted the importance of protecting children from sexual abuse and ensuring their safety in educational institutions. The case also underscores the responsibility of school authorities, teachers and parents to remain vigilant and provide children with a safe environment.
