Maha: Minister Patil directs officials to take measures sensitively, promptly to tackle water scarcity in Sangli

Sangli, Sep 20 (UNI) Maharashtra and district guardian minister Chandrkant Patil today directed the district authorities to be vigilant and take effective measures sensitively and promptly to tackle the water scarcity situation in the district arisen due to rain deficit triggered by El Nino weather system.
Chairing a meeting organized to review the drought-like situation in the district at the district collector's office here, he assured farmers that they should not panic in view of the situation created due to El Nino as the government is behind them.
"The state government is very sensitive regarding drinking water and fodder for animals. Therefore, all the officials in the administration should also be vigilant and take measures sensitively and promptly to overcome the shortage situation in the district," he said.
The minister further said instruction had been given to release 900 cusecs of water from the Warna dam to provide water for filling the water tankers in Jat taluka, which has the highest demand for tankers. The authorities should take necessary action to meet the demand for tankers in Jat taluka, he said.
Patil further said that 1,000 cusecs of water is currently being released from Koyna dam. Water Resources Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil has given permission to increase it to 2,500 cusecs, and 2,500 cusecs of water will be released from Koyna dam for next 15 days.
This water will help fill the lakes and other water sources in the district, he said and added that this will be used to reduce water shortages in the future.
