Maha: Tourist bus catches fire on Mumbai-Pune Expressway, 14 passengers safe

Mumbai, Sep 24 (UNI) A double-decker tourist bus caught fire on the Pune-bound side of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Khalapur Toll Plaza today morning, but all 14 passengers escaped safely, officials said.
The incident occurred around 7.37 am in the morning when the bus was heading towards Pune. After the fire was noticed, fire brigade and rescue teams were rushed to the spot and began to douse the flames.
Teams from the Panvel Municipal Corporation and Khopoli Municipal Council also took part in the firefighting operation.
The fire was brought under control after some time. The incident led to a brief disruption in traffic on the expressway as emergency personnel carried out firefighting and clearance work.
All 14 passengers were evacuated safely from the bus and no one was injured, officials said.
Preliminary information suggested that a technical problem in the air-conditioning system might have caused the fire. However, the exact reason for the incident is yet to be confirmed.
Officials are assessing the damage caused to the bus.
