Maha: Two 17-yr olds drown during Ganpati immersion in Nashik

Nashik, Sep 19 (UNI) Two 17-year-old boys drowned while immersing a Ganpati idol on fifth day of immersion in Mosam river at Nampur in Baglan taluka of the district, leaving the villagers and residents from surrounding areas in mourning.
The deceased have been identified as Atharva Deepak Pagar, a resident of Uttaraane, and Prasad Dadabhau Wagh, a resident of Nampur.
According to information available, a group of Class XII students from a private coaching class in Nampur had gone to a check dam on the Mosam river for Ganpati immersion on Saturday afternoon. While Atharva and Prasad entered the water, they reportedly began drowning. People present at the spot attempted to rescue them, but the depth of the water made the rescue difficult.
Local residents rushed to the spot and a rescue team from Malegaon was called in. After a search operation, the rescue team recovered both youths from the river. However, they had died by then. Their bodies were taken to a hospital in Nampur for further medical procedures.
In his statement to the police, Atharva's father, Kamalakar Pagar, alleged that private coaching class operator Vivek Ashok Patil had taken the students for Ganpati immersion without obtaining permission from their parents. The statement reportedly mentions that two female teachers and around 10 to 15 students were accompanying the group.
The family has demanded that a case of culpable homicide be registered against the coaching class operator. A case has been registered at Jaikheda Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over Nampur and the surrounding villages. The families of Atharva Pagar and Prasad Wagh are mourning the loss, with their parents reportedly devastated.
People are urged to exercise extreme caution during Ganpati immersion. Avoid entering deep or fast-flowing water. Wherever possible, devotees should opt for idol donation or use designated artificial immersion tanks to prevent such tragedies.
