Maha: Wadettiwar seeks CEC Gyanesh Kumar's ouster, MPSC chief's dismissal

Nagpur, Oct 6 (UNI) Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar today called for the immediate removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar amid the controversy surrounding revisions to Form 6, while also urging Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to dismiss Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) Chairman Vivek Bhimanwar.
Speaking at a press conference here, Wadettiwar alleged that electoral rolls were tampered with through the addition and deletion of voters' names under the guise of implementing directions purportedly linked to a Supreme Court order.
He contended that if the apex court had not authorised such changes, the CEC should be removed from his post without delay.
Questioning the legitimacy of the process, the Congress leader claimed the exercise had undermined public confidence and raised serious concerns about the functioning of the Election Commission.
Turning to the MPSC controversy, Wadettiwar said the state government's decision to recommend a judicial inquiry into the functioning of present and former chairpersons and members of the commission was inadequate.
He maintained that chairman Vivek Bhimanwar should be removed instead of merely being subjected to an inquiry.
Stating that allegations of irregularities and examination paper leaks had severely damaged the credibility of the commission, he said students had lost faith in the recruitment process and that decisive action was needed to restore trust.
Wadettiwar argued that if the government was genuinely committed to transparency and accountability, it should immediately remove Bhimanwar rather than wait for the outcome of an investigation.
The Congress leader also attacked the government over the drought situation in the state, alleging that it had failed to prepare adequately despite prior warnings of below-normal rainfall linked to El Niño conditions.
Seeking a probe into expenditure on water conservation schemes, he questioned how funds allocated for such projects had been utilised and demanded accountability.
