Manipur's natural heritage must be protected: Dy CM Losii Dikho

Imphal, Nov 5 (UNI) Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho Thursday called for collective responsibility in protecting Manipur's natural heritage, describing the state as a God-gifted land blessed with extraordinary natural beauty, rich cultural diversity and beautiful people.
“God must love Manipur very much to have taken such special care and time in creating it. There is no other place quite like it,” he remarked, urging people to protect, preserve and cherish the state's priceless natural resources for future generations.
Dikho was speaking as the Chief Guest on the fifth day of the BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week, 2026, organised by the Department of Environment and Climate Change, Manipur, at the City Convention Centre, Palace Compound, Imphal. The programme was held under the theme “Say No to Single-Use Plastics”.
Highlighting Manipur's unique natural treasures, the Deputy Chief Minister particularly referred to Loktak Lake, the endangered Sangai deer and the Shirui Lily, describing them as invaluable gifts of nature that must not be taken for granted. He stressed that protecting these assets requires a shared commitment from every section of society.
Pointing out that ponds are found in almost every locality and many households have access to drinking water, Dikho said such natural blessings are not available everywhere. He called upon people to recognise the value of these resources and take collective responsibility for safeguarding the environment, the state's future and the generations to come.
The Deputy Chief Minister also administered the Mission LiFE pledge on environmental protection, urging participants to take the message beyond the programme and spread awareness among their families, neighbours and communities. He emphasised that environmental responsibility must become an integral part of everyday life rather than remain limited to official campaigns and events.
He congratulated the Department of Environment and Climate Change for organising the initiative and appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Waste Warriors in their ongoing endeavour to protect the environment.
The programme also featured the felicitation of Waste Warriors and representatives of Cluster Level Federations in recognition of their contributions towards environmental protection and community-level waste management.
