Most Ambedkar statues vandalised during BJP rule in UP: Akhilesh Yadav

Lucknow, Sep 20 (UNI) Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said that the highest number of statues of Constitution-maker Dr. B.R. Ambedkar were vandalised during the BJP’s tenure in Uttar Pradesh.He further claimed that arrests had been made in 14 cases, while the accused remained unidentified in 45 cases. Named complaints were filed in eight cases, he said, adding that no action was taken in 84 cases.
Yadav claimed that 151 Ambedkar statues had been vandalised across 72 districts during the period, averaging more than 15 incidents a year. Ballia recorded the highest number of such incidents, he said.
“BJP members do not respect Ambedkar,” Yadav alleged.
He also accused the BJP of being opposed to reservation, citing lateral entry and outsourcing as examples. The BJP government, he alleged, does not appoint enough officers from the PDA (Pichhda, Dalit and Alpsankhyak) communities and does not deploy even 10 per cent of them for election-related responsibilities.
Yadav made the remarks while addressing the media after the SP state committee meeting here on Sunday
