Industry commits ₹3,590 crore to accelerate India's decarbonisation: CII

Hyderabad, Sept 17 (UNI) Indian industry has committed investments of ₹3,590 crore towards electrification, process improvements, waste-heat recovery, digitalisation, IoT and artificial intelligence to accelerate the country's decarbonisation efforts, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) said on Thursday.
The announcement was made at the 25th CII Energy Efficiency Summit 2026 in Hyderabad, which brought together policymakers, industry leaders, technology providers, academia and sustainability experts to discuss India's transition towards a net-zero economy.
Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) Director General Krushna Chandra Panigrahy said energy efficiency and electrification would be central to meeting India's rising energy demand, while calling for faster adoption of energy-efficient technologies among MSMEs.
He said industrial electrification, heat pumps, building efficiency, sustainable transportation, e-cooking and efficient cooling would be important for achieving India's Net Zero 2070 and Viksit Bharat 2047 goals.
CII Energy Efficiency Summit Chairman and BLP-Industry.AI Founder and CEO Tejpreet Singh Chopra said AI and digital tools could help MSMEs identify inefficiencies, optimise processes and make data-driven decisions.
CII Godrej GBC Executive Director P V Kiran Ananth said 720 industry respondents had invested around ₹5,700 crore in energy efficiency over the previous three years and achieved savings of more than ₹7,100 crore.
A key highlight of the summit was the launch of the India Heat Pump Atlas – The National Installation Insights Dashboard, developed under the CII Heat Pump Alliance.
The Atlas consolidates data from 13 technology partners covering 2,201 installations with a combined capacity of 288 MW, including 1,063 industrial and 1,138 commercial installations.
The installations span sectors such as automobiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, textiles, food, electronics, paper and petrochemicals.
The Atlas identified 34 industrial installations operating at temperatures of 100 degrees Celsius or above, with applications reaching 140 degrees Celsius, indicating the potential of heat pumps for industrial process heating.
The summit also discussed energy efficiency, renewable energy, electrification, financing mechanisms, clean technologies and pathways for scaling measurable reductions in energy consumption and emissions.
