Three media officials die as jeep plunges into gorge in Mizoram

Aizawl, Oct 1 (UNI) Three government media officials were killed after a jeep they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge near Sateek village in Mizoram today evening.

The accident occurred around 6.10 pm, about 30 km south of Aizawl, as the vehicle was returning to the state capital from Sialsuk.

The deceased were Nampibou Marinmai, Director (News) of the Regional News Unit of Doordarshan and All India Radio in Aizawl; Dr Engam Pame, Additional Director General of the Press Information Bureau's Regional Office in Imphal; and H Lianvela, a Multi-Tasking Staff member of the Central Bureau of Communication, Aizawl.

Gojendro Dey, the driver attached to the CBC, Aizawl, was seriously injured in the accident.

Local residents and Young Mizo Association members rushed to the spot and conducted a rescue operation, recovering the bodies from the gorge. They were later taken to Zoram Medical College and Hospital.

Pame had been in Aizawl to conduct an interview for the PIB office here, officials said.
