Banana farming emerging as income source for Odisha tribal farmers

Bhubaneswar, Sep 28 (UNI) Tribal farmers in Odisha’s Kandhamal district, already engaged in banana cultivation for the past five years and earning incomes running into lakhs through improved farming practices, are now being trained in advanced techniques to further boost productivity and commercial production.
The initiative is being implemented under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) in Minia village under Karnada Gram Panchayat, where more than 50 tribal families have received training in scientific banana cultivation, crop management, disease control and post-harvest practices, said officials on Monday.
“The tribal farmers of Kandhamal have already been engaged in banana cultivation for the last five years and many of them have achieved significant economic benefits, earning incomes in lakhs through improved farming methods.
