Security tightened in Darbhanga for Durga Puja

Darbhanga, Oct 17 (UNI) A flag march was conducted in Darbhanga district under the joint leadership of District Magistrate Kaushal Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police Jagunath Reddy Jalareddy to maintain peace and law and order during Durga Puja and ensure the safety of devotees.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made at around 450 locations across the district. Drone cameras and CCTV systems will be used to monitor puja pandals and sensitive areas.
The flag march began at the Police Lines and passed through several major routes in the city, including Lohia Chowk, Neem Chowk, Darbhanga Tower, Kadirabad Market Committee, Delhi Mor, Bagh Mor, the railway station, Donar Chowk, Allalpatti and Benta.
District Magistrate Kaushal Kumar said comprehensive security arrangements had been made in view of the expected increase in crowds at puja pandals and religious sites on Saptami, the seventh day of the Durga Puja festival.
Police officers and magistrates have been deployed at all relevant locations. He instructed station house officers to conduct regular patrols in their respective jurisdictions and closely monitor the law-and-order situation.
Kumar appealed to residents to celebrate Durga Puja in an atmosphere of mutual brotherhood and communal harmony. He also directed puja committees to comply with the Model Code of Conduct in force in connection with the Bihar Legislative Council's teachers' and graduates' constituency elections and prohibited political party-related posters and banners inside puja pandals.
Senior Superintendent of Police Jagunath Reddy Jalareddy said adequate numbers of police personnel and officers had been deployed across the district. Village watchmen have also been assigned duties in rural areas. All station house officers, circle officers, sub-divisional magistrates and sub-divisional police officers are continuously monitoring their respective areas.
Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been formed to deal with emergencies. In addition, 10 motorcycle patrol teams have been constituted, while Dial 112 emergency response teams have been kept active.
He said a control room operating round the clock had been established at the SSP's office. The fire services and electricity departments had also been instructed to remain alert so that fire safety and electrical issues at puja pandals could be addressed immediately.
Jalareddy warned that those posting objectionable comments on social media, circulating misleading information or spreading rumours to disrupt communal harmony would face FIRs and strict legal action. The cyber cell is continuously monitoring social media platforms.
He appealed to citizens to immediately report any suspicious activity or law-and-order concerns to the police control room or Dial 112.
