Seva Sankalp Utsav: Guv Parnaik calls for preservation of Arunachal’s traditional sports

Itanagar, Oct 17 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik on Saturday called for the preservation of the State's indigenous sports and cultural traditions, while encouraging youth to embrace discipline, integrity and community service.
Addressing the State-level Traditional Sports Competition and Nukkad Natak finale of the month-long Seva Sankalp Utsav at Dera Natung Government College ground here, the Governor said traditional sports reflected the courage, agility and endurance of the state's ancestors and formed an important part of its cultural heritage.
The Governor witnessed the finals of the traditional sports competitions and the street play, ‘Namoh Seva – Ankahi Kahaniya’. He presented the overall team championship trophy to Keyi Panyor district, while Shi-Yomi district secured the runners-up trophy. The programme was organised by the Department of Youth Affairs.
Describing Seva Sankalp Utsav as a celebration of service, sportsmanship, cultural heritage and responsible citizenship, Parnaik said the event commemorated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 25-year journey in public service, from Chief Minister of Gujarat to Prime Minister of India.
He said Modi's journey from humble beginnings to the country's highest executive office was an inspiration for young people to pursue their aspirations with determination, discipline and hard work.
The Governor highlighted the Prime Minister's emphasis on farmers, women, youth and soldiers as key pillars of national progress. He also referred to initiatives such as Digital India, Skill India, Startup India, Khelo India, the National Education Policy 2020 and the Fit India Movement, stating that leadership was meaningful when it improved lives and created opportunities for future generations.
Calling young people the leaders of tomorrow and active partners in building a better Arunachal Pradesh, he urged them to uphold dedication, perseverance and integrity and contribute to the vision of Viksit Arunachal and Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Commending the state government's initiative, Parnaik said sports promoted physical fitness, competitive spirit, teamwork, discipline and mutual respect. He called for the preservation of indigenous games, including bamboo archery, bamboo pole climbing and traditional running, through community participation and competitions at village, district and state levels.
He also stressed the need to complement traditional sporting practices with modern sports science, nutrition, physiotherapy, injury prevention and mental conditioning to help athletes achieve their full potential.
Appreciating the Nukkad Natak depicting the life of the Prime Minister, the Governor encouraged artists to use the medium to raise awareness against drug abuse, alcoholism and corruption. He said local languages, indigenous stories, music and theatre could make such campaigns more effective in reaching communities.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein highlighted activities conducted across the State during the month-long celebrations and spoke about Modi's contributions to Arunachal Pradesh and the country.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kento Jini briefed the gathering on the competitions and various youth empowerment initiatives undertaken by the state government.
