FMU, IMS join hands to promote monsoon safety among farmers in Baleshwar

Baleshwar, Sep 29 (UNI) Fakir Mohan University (FMU), in collaboration with the Bhubaneswar Chapter of the Indian Meteorological Society (IMS), organised a one-day Rainy-Season Safety Awareness Programme for Farmers here on Tuesday, focusing on lightning safety, snakebite prevention and emergency response during the monsoon.
The programme, attended by around 300 farmers from all 12 blocks of Baleshwar district, stressed the need for greater awareness, preparedness and scientific safety practices to prevent monsoon-related deaths and injuries, with the message, “Stay Alert, Stay Safe – Together, Let Us Work Towards Zero Monsoon Deaths.”
In his welcome address, Prof Nihar Ranjan Rout, Head of the Department of Geography, FMU, said the programme aimed to strengthen awareness and preparedness among farmers against lightning, snakebite and other monsoon-related emergencies.

50 killed in Myanmar airstrike near Mizoram border
