Gautam Adani offers prayers at Kalighat amid Bengal investment plans

Kolkata, Sep 24 (UNI) Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani offered prayers at the Kalighat temple in Kolkata with his wife on Thursday morning, a day after arriving in West Bengal amid plans by his group to explore major investments in the state.
Adani has a packed schedule during his visit, including a meeting with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on investment proposals and the foundation stone-laying ceremony of a 2,000-bed hospital in New Town.
The hospital, named Adani Aarogya Mandir, is among the group's initiatives in the state.
Adani is also expected to inaugurate the renovated Kumortuli Ghat, which has been developed with support from the group.
His visit comes at a time when the BJP government is seeking to attract large investments and promote industrialisation in West Bengal.
Adhikari has repeatedly stressed the need for industrial growth and employment generation, while the state government has indicated that it is in discussions with several major industrialists over investment opportunities.
The Adani Group is expected to invest in multiple sectors in Bengal, with healthcare being one of the areas where a project has already taken shape.
The group has also announced initiatives linked to Kolkata's Durga Puja.
It will select eight Durga Puja committees and provide each with a grant of Rs 25 lakh.
The initiative is aimed at showcasing the artistic and cultural traditions of Durga Puja on a wider platform.
A special Puja Preview Tour will also be organised for prominent personalities from India and abroad to showcase Kolkata's Durga Puja heritage.
The three-day programme will be held on October 10, 11 and 12.
Adani's meeting with Adhikari is expected to focus on the group's proposed investments and opportunities for expanding its presence in West Bengal.
