Humayun Kabir draws controversy over remarks wishing West Bengal CM’s death, FIR filed

Kolkata, Sep 27 (UNI) An FIR was lodged against Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) founder and MLA Humayun Kabir at Berhampore police station on Sunday after he triggered controversy by allegedly making remarks wishing for the early death of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Kabir criticised Adhikari and alleged that the chief minister had become arrogant after coming to power.

He also accused the government of subjecting minorities to continued harassment.
Kabir said he would pray to God for Adhikari to leave the world soon.
“He has become arrogant after getting power. I will pray to Allah that he is given a ticket to go upstairs as soon as possible. Arrogance will eventually lead to a fall, and everyone has to leave this world,” he said.
Kabir also referred to the deaths of several prominent political figures, including former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, and Madhavrao Scindia, while speaking about the chief minister.
He claimed that those who had displayed arrogance in the past had eventually met tragic ends.
He also referred to his earlier expulsion from Trinamool and said he had prayed for then chief minister Mamata Banerjee to be removed from power.
“The day Mamata Banerjee expelled me from her party, I had also prayed that she should be removed from power and become a former chief minister. Allah had heard that prayer,” Kabir said.
Kabir has previously faced controversy over remarks directed at the state government and the chief minister.

In June, Adhikari had warned him to “think 25 times” before making such statements, following which police summoned the AJUP chief in connection with cases over his remarks.
Kabir is currently the MLA from Naoda and heads the AJUP.
He had recently announced that he would stay away from campaigning in the upcoming Rejinagar Assembly bypoll, with his son and AJUP candidate Golam Nabi Azad also staying away from the campaign trail.
The latest remarks have drawn criticism from political opponents.
BJP candidate from Rejinagar Shakharav Sarkar condemned Kabir's statement and described it as a serious breach of political decorum.
The development comes amid heightened political activity in Murshidabad ahead of the Rejinagar bypoll.
Kabir has also faced recent police action in connection with other alleged inflammatory remarks, and was questioned by Berhampore police earlier this month in a separate case.
