Security Forces Recover Arms, six arrested Manipur

Imphal, Oct 7 (UNI) In a series of intelligence-based operations conducted across Manipur, district police and Central Security Forces recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives and arrested six individuals allegedly involved in extortion, criminal activities and other cases, police said on Wednesday.
A joint team of Wangoi Police Station and Central Security Forces today conducted a search operation near the bank of the Waishen River under Wangoi Police Station based on reliable information. During the operation, the team recovered one 7.62 mm SLR rifle with magazine, one SBBL, nine assorted live rounds and three wireless sets.
A joint team of Imphal East District Police and Central Security Forces conducted a search operation yesterday in the Wakan Hill Range under Sagolmang Police Station and recovered a large cache of suspected looted arms, ammunition and explosives concealed near the foothills. The recovery included one SLR, one country-made AK-47, one country-made MP-5, four country-made carbines, two pistols and four country-made 12-bore single-barrel guns.
The security forces also recovered 25 live rounds of assorted calibres, one No. 36 HE grenade with detonator, one fragmentation grenade, three mortar shells and one empty mortar shell. Other items recovered from the site included radio-set chargers, an SLR bayonet, a flare round, a helmet, a jacket and boots.
Two alleged insurgents were nabbed at Imphal West yesterday. In another operation on the same day, based on reliable information corroborated by central agencies, a team of Manipur Police conducted a search operation in the Hiyanglam area under Hiyanglam Police Station and arrested another insurgent.
Manipur Police today arrested an alleged insurgent at Bishnupur district. In a separate drug-related investigation, police arrested Nongthombam Jamesjit, proprietor of Kangla Drugs & Surgical Pharmacy at Naoremthong Bazar, Imphal West. The arrest followed an investigation into an FIR registered at Porompat Police Station after three individuals were arrested along with contraband items on October 4.
Police said Jamesjit emerged as the suspected kingpin of the network. He was traced to Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and arrested yesterday. A four-day transit remand has been obtained to bring him to Manipur for further investigation.
In another operation carried out based on the disclosure of one of the persons arrested earlier in connection with a case, a joint team of Manipur Police, Central Security Forces and YADAM conducted a search operation at the Oinam Thingel riverbank. The team recovered 8,320 bottles of CHOCO cough syrup packed in 52 boxes. Further investigation into the case is underway.
Meanwhile, police also arrested an accused who had escaped from custody earlier this year. On August 26, Buyamayum Ayub Khan, of Hiyangthang Tarahei Konjil, who was in police custody in connection with an FIR registered at Lilong Police Station, escaped by climbing over the police station campus wall. Police said he was arrested earlier from Yairipok Leikai Mana Ingkhol, Hatta, in Imphal East.
