GTCC satisfied with infrastructure progress for 39th National Games in Meghalaya

Shillong, Nov 5 (UNI) The Games Technical and Conduct Committee (GTCC) has expressed complete satisfaction with the ongoing preparations for the 39th National Games, scheduled to be held in Meghalaya.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday at the conclusion of a four-day visit to the state, GTCC Chairperson Sunaina Kumari announced that the multi-sport event is tentatively scheduled to take place from March 10 to 30, 2027.
She said that the five-member delegation was highly satisfied with the pace of venue development.
“We have held extensive consultations with government departments and key stakeholders. It is encouraging to see everyone working in tandem toward a highly successful Games," Kumari said.
“We are confident, seeing the venues and the accommodation, that it will be a very successful event,” she added.
The delegation has wrapped up venue and accommodation inspections across Shillong, Wahiajer, Jowai, and Umiam Lake.
Kumari said that the committee would inspect the Tura venues during a later phase.
Instead of utilising a centralised Games Village, athletes will be housed in designated lodging facilities situated in close proximity to their respective competition venues.
Meghalaya will host the bulk of the sporting disciplines across Greater Shillong, Tura, Ri-Bhoi, and Wahiajer-Jowai, while a few select sports will be distributed among neighboring northeastern states.
The state government has proposed a total of 39 disciplines, with a final decision on the lineup expected from the Indian Olympic Association(IOA) in the coming days.
Highlighting the financial readiness for the event, Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) Working President John F. Kharshiing stated that the state government has already extended substantial financial backing to active sports associations recognized by the MSOA.
He added that the funding received by the MSOA is being closely monitored by the state Sports Department to ensure optimal utilisation.
