Worker killed, another injured in fall from 19th floor at Gurugram construction site; protest turns violent

Panchkula, Sep 19 (UNI) A 19-year-old construction worker was killed and another seriously injured after they fell while working on the 19th floor of an under-construction building in Gurugram on Saturday, triggering a protest by workers who allegedly assaulted company officials over claims of inadequate safety measures.
The deceased was identified as Dilkhush, a resident of Katihar in Bihar, while the injured worker, Vasudev, is from West Bengal.
Vasudev reportedly got stuck on an intermediate floor during the fall and suffered serious injuries.
The incident occurred at a Smartworld construction site, where the two were working on the 19th floor.
Company officials said a preliminary assessment indicated that the workers may have fallen after losing their footing.
Fellow workers, however, alleged that adequate safety equipment had not been provided to those working at height and accused the management of ignoring safety norms.
The precise circumstances leading to the fall were yet to be established.
The accident sparked unrest at the site, with workers halting construction and confronting company officials who arrived to speak with them.
The confrontation subsequently turned violent. Some workers allegedly detained and assaulted company officials and threw safety helmets at them as they attempted to leave the site.
The officials managed to escape, according to the account of the incident.
Bajghera police station SHO Sunil reached the site with a police team after receiving information about the disturbance.
Police pacified the protesting workers and assured them that the circumstances surrounding the worker's death would be investigated. The situation was subsequently brought under control.
