MWB gives Rs 10 lakh aid to late journalist’s son, Rs 40,000 to the Yamunanagar scribe

Panchkula, Sept 18 (UNI) Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij on Friday handed over Rs 10 lakh financial assistance to Ankush Jain, son of late Chandigarh journalist Rajesh Jain, and Rs 40,000 to Yamunanagar journalist Gulab Singh under a Media Wellbeing Association (MWB) initiative.
The assistance was presented at Ambala Cantonment. Vij said journalists often work in challenging circumstances, and providing financial security to them and their families in times of crisis was important.
“Standing by journalists and their families in times of need is important,” Vij said, expressing appreciation for MWB’s welfare initiatives.
MWB president Chandrashekhar Dharani said the association has so far spent around Rs 48 lakh on financial assistance to journalists and their families, including support during illness and following the sudden death of journalists.
He said MWB does not charge a membership fee and has been providing journalists Rs 10 lakh accidental insurance and Rs 10 lakh term insurance cover free of cost for the past five years, with the policies renewed annually.
The association has also introduced cashless health insurance, which covered founder members and their families during 2025-26, and plans to expand the facility.
Dharani said cameramen working with journalists in Chandigarh have also been brought under the welfare initiative with Rs 10 lakh accidental insurance cover.
Vij said insurance, healthcare support and direct financial assistance could provide an important safety net for journalists and their families during unforeseen circumstances.
