Railways notifies 2026 rules for Unified Pension Scheme under NPS

New Delhi, Sep 23 (UNI) The Ministry of Railways has notified new rules governing the implementation of the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) as an option under the National Pension System for railway employees, laying down provisions covering enrolment, contributions, voluntary retirement, resignation, death, disability and disciplinary cases.
The Railway Services (Implementation of Unified Pension Scheme under National Pension System) Rules, 2026 were notified by the Railway Board on September 16 and came into force from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
The rules apply to railway employees substantively appointed to railway services and posts on or after January 1, 2004, who opt for UPS under NPS. Casual and daily-rated workers, persons paid from contingencies and contractual employees are among those excluded from their ambit.
