Man held in Faridabad for allegedly using fake BJP MLA stamp to verify Aadhaar documents

Faridabad, Oct 1 (UNI) Police have arrested a man for allegedly using a forged stamp bearing the name of BJP MLA Satish Fagna to verify documents submitted for Aadhaar enrolment and updates in Faridabad, officials said.
The accused, identified as Saurabh, a resident of Parvatiya Colony, allegedly charged people between Rs 800 and Rs 1,000 for document verification. Police suspect that he used the purportedly fake stamp to verify documents belonging to more than 100 people.
The case was registered at Saran police station following a complaint by Satyaprakash, who is in charge of the NIT MLA's office. The alleged forgery came to light when some residents approached the MLA's office with documents arranged through Saurabh after encountering difficulties while updating their Aadhaar details.
According to police, Saurabh had operated a Common Service Centre (CSC) in Parvatiya Colony for around five years, assisting residents with Aadhaar-related work and other government services. Although the centre was closed earlier this year, he allegedly continued providing Aadhaar enrolment and update-related assistance to local residents.
Police allege that, since certain supporting documents required verification, Saurabh arranged a fake stamp in the name of NIT Assembly constituency MLA Satish Fagna and began using it to authenticate the documents.
The alleged fraud was detected when residents carrying the documents approached the MLA's office in Dabua Colony. Satyaprakash reportedly examined the papers and became suspicious. After checking the matter with the MLA, it was found that Fagna had not signed the documents, following which a complaint was filed with Saran police.
Police subsequently investigated the complaint and arrested Saurabh. He has been taken on remand for questioning to establish the extent of the alleged forgery, determine how many documents were processed using the purportedly fake stamp and ascertain whether other people were involved.
Faridabad has witnessed a similar case in the past. In 2019, police had busted a racket that allegedly used forged letterheads and a stamp in the name of then-Tigaon MLA Lalit Nagar to facilitate Aadhaar card issuance. Six people were arrested in that case.
Police said further investigation into the latest case is underway.UNI KK AAB
