Haryana Women's Commission takes suo motu cognisance of Gurugram woman biker incident, seeks FIR, action report

Panchkula, Sept 15 (UNI) The Haryana State Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognisance of the alleged intentional hitting of a woman biker by a vehicle in Gurugram and directed police to take prompt legal action, including registration of an FIR under relevant provisions, besides ensuring the woman's safety.
In a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Gurugram, the Commission referred to a video circulating on social media in which the driver of a vehicle bearing registration number HR 30 Y 4949 was allegedly seen intentionally hitting a woman rider with the vehicle.
The Commission said the contents of the video disclosed a "serious threat to the life, safety and dignity of the woman" and therefore warranted its suo motu intervention.
The letter, dated September 14, directed the concerned Deputy Commissioner of Police to immediately identify the woman and ensure her safety, medical assistance and legal aid.
Police have also been asked to identify the driver and registered owner of the vehicle and secure and preserve the original video, CCTV footage, vehicle records and other relevant evidence.
The Commission directed police to take prompt action in accordance with law, including registration of an FIR under relevant sections, and to ensure that no threat, pressure or harassment is caused to the woman or her family.
It also sought preventive action to ensure her safety.
The Commission has asked Gurugram Police to submit an Action Taken Report, along with a copy of the FIR or Daily Diary Report and relevant records, by September 15 before 12.30 pm.
The letter said the identity of the woman should not be disclosed except as permissible under law.
A copy of the communication has also been forwarded to the Haryana Director General of Police and the concerned Commissioner of Police for immediate compliance.
