Himachal CM leads anti-chitta rally in Rohru, calls for collective fight against drugs

Shimla, October 1 (UNI)Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday led an anti-chitta rally in Rohru, joining students in spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and calling for a collective fight against substance abuse.
Sukhu flagged off the rally from Government Senior Secondary School, Rohru, and walked alongside the students as they marched through the town. The rally witnessed participation by a large number of students, who raised slogans including ‘Nasha Choro, Zindagi Se Naata Joro’ and urged people to stay away from drugs.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the state government was taking strict action against the drug mafia and made it clear that there was no place in Himachal Pradesh for those involved in the illegal drug trade.
He said the fight against drugs could not be limited to government agencies and required the active participation of every section of society. Parents, teachers, students and community members had an important role to play in preventing drug abuse and creating awareness among young people.
Sukhu said anti-chitta rallies and awareness programmes were being organised across Himachal Pradesh to educate the youth and the general public about the harmful effects of chitta and other drugs.
Such campaigns were also aimed at encouraging young people to stay away from substance abuse and make healthy choices.
He particularly stressed the role of young people in spreading awareness against drugs, saying students could become important ambassadors of the campaign by motivating their peers and communities to remain away from substance abuse.
Earlier, the Chief Minister administered the Anti-Chitta Pledge to the students and urged them to stay away from drugs. He also called upon them to take an active role in the campaign to make society drug-free.
During the programme, Sukhu interacted with the children and took selfies with them, encouraging their participation in the anti-drug campaign.
The rally formed part of the state government's efforts to intensify awareness against drug abuse and involve students and local communities in the campaign.
