Himachal CM announces higher milk, apple procurement prices to boost rural economy

Shimla, October 1 (UNI) Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday announced an increase in the support price of milk from December 1 and raised the procurement price of apples under the Market Intervention Scheme from Rs 12 to Rs 13 per kg, saying the measures would strengthen the rural economy and increase farmers’ incomes.
Addressing a public meeting at Chirgaon in the Rohru Assembly constituency, Sukhu said the state government was making continuous efforts to strengthen the rural economy and increase the income of farmers, apple growers and livestock farmers.
He said previous governments had made only small increases in milk prices, while the present state government had made a historic increase in the support price. Further increases in the future would help enhance the income of livestock farmers, he said.
The Chief Minister said the Congress government was committed to rural development and had introduced the universal carton system to benefit apple growers.
Support prices were also being provided for produce from natural farming. On education, Sukhu said the previous BJP government had not paid adequate attention to the sector and claimed that Himachal Pradesh, which ranked 21st in quality education in 2021, had now moved to fifth place due to the efforts of the present government. He said English-medium education had been introduced from Class 1 in government schools and more than 150 CBSE schools had been opened in view of declining student numbers.
After CBSE curriculum was introduced in one school in Rohru, the number of students increased by more than 500 in a year, he said, adding that 1,500 teachers had been appointed in CBSE schools. He said 300 Schools of Excellence were also being developed to provide children in rural areas better education close to home and reduce the financial burden on parents.
Sukhu said the government was taking steps to prevent corruption and ensure that state resources were used for the benefit of common people.
Responding to BJP questions over the Chief Minister’s Office, he said it belonged to the people and was meant to address their problems. He said the state government had protected Himachal Pradesh’s interests in the Wildflower Hall and JSW cases before the Supreme Court.
He also claimed that the state had achieved significant success in the Kishau Multipurpose Project, which could generate around Rs 1,200 crore to Rs 1,500 crore in revenue. The Chief Minister said the Congress government had implemented the Old Pension Scheme and more employees would be brought under it in future. Eligible women would receive a monthly pension of Rs 1,500 under the Apna Parivar Sukhi Parivar scheme, while eligible families would be provided 300 units of electricity.
He said 23,000 houses were completely destroyed during the disaster and financial assistance for such houses had been increased from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh.
Sukhu announced that Community Health Centre Sandasu would be upgraded to a Civil Hospital and a Sub-Tehsil would be opened at Samarkot.
A survey would be conducted to explore opening an SDM office at Chirgaon, while Jangla and Chirgaon schools would be converted into CBSE schools. Earlier, local MLA Mohan Lal Brakta said the Chief Minister’s visit was his fourth to the Rohru Assembly constituency and highlighted development works in the area.
