Presiding over a meeting of the Power Department here, Sukhu said the state government was ready to pay the first instalment towards the cost of the project to facilitate its takeover in the interest of Himachal Pradesh.
He said the state government would not compromise on the interests of the people and was committed to protecting the state's wealth and natural resources.
The Chief Minister said efforts were also being made to take over the Luhri and Sunni hydro power projects from SJVNL.
Reviewing the progress of various under-construction hydro power projects, Sukhu directed the department to expedite construction and ensure their completion within stipulated timelines so that the state could derive maximum benefits from its hydroelectric resources.
During the meeting, officials informed the Chief Minister that the 450 MW Shong Tong Power Project would become fully operational by September next year following the commissioning of its three turbines.
The officials also informed him that a Power Purchase Agreement would be signed with Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) for the electricity generated by the project.
