AAP launches 2027 Punjab poll campaign, Mann says party will take government record to voters

Chandigarh, Sep 19 (UNI) Punjab's ruling Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday launched its campaign for the 2027 assembly election, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann saying the party would seek another term on the strength of its government's record rather than rely on fresh promises.
Mann released the party's election pamphlet at a workers' meeting at an indoor stadium on Pakhowal Road in Ludhiana, ahead of a month-long door-to-door campaign beginning on Sunday.
AAP said 268,553 booth committee members would take part in the outreach covering 25,332 polling booths across Punjab. Mann will begin the door-to-door drive from his Dhuri assembly constituency on Sept. 20.
"We will go to the people and tell them what we have done, and then ask them what more they want us to do," Mann said.
The chief minister said his government had delivered more than the guarantees made by AAP before the 2022 election. He cited the state's road safety initiative, claiming it was saving about 2,700 lives annually and had also drawn praise from union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Mann also said his government had shut 19 toll plazas, saving Punjab residents about 6.4 million rupees every day, although closing toll plazas was not among the party's 2022 election promises.
AAP's Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia accused the BJP-led federal government of trying to obstruct the state government by withholding funds and using federal investigative agencies.
"The Centre sent the ED and CBI and stopped Punjab's funds, but Bhagwant Mann has God's blessings. They could not stop his work," Sisodia said.
There was no immediate response from the BJP-led federal government to the allegations.
Sisodia also alleged that 80% of drugs being sold in Punjab were coming from BJP-ruled states. He did not provide evidence to back his claim.
Punjab AAP president and cabinet minister Aman Arora said the party's booth workers would take the government's achievements to households while also collecting people's concerns.
"Our 2.68 lakh booth members will take the government's work from door to door and bring people's issues back to the government," Arora said. AAP said its campaign would highlight policies related to electricity, farmers, canal water, government schools, employment, sports facilities and businesses.
The party swept to power in Punjab in 2022 and is seeking a second consecutive term in the 117-member assembly in 2027.
