Congress protesters demanding resignation of CEC held in Lucknow

Lucknow, Oct 8 (UNI) Several Congress workers were taken into custody when they tried to cross over barricades erected by police during a big demonstration in the state capital on Thursday demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
A large number of party workers participated in the protest, led by newly appointed Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President Aradhana Mishra. Wearing black bands, the workers raised slogans against the CEC.
During the protest, when Congress workers tried to move forward, the police erected barricades and stopped them. Several workers then climbed the barricades and began shouting slogans. A scuffle broke out between the police and the protesters. The police took into custody the protesters, including Aradhana Mishra and others.
This demonstration was in response to nationwide protests called by the Congress demanding Gyanesh Kumar's resignation over alleged irregularities in revision of electoral rolls to favour the BJP.
The Congress party alleges that serious questions have been raised about the election process and issues related to the voter list. Meanwhile, the BJP and other parties have offered varying responses to these allegations. UNI MBD NST CDS
