Punjab Police arrest 231 in statewide anti-gangster crackdown, raid 543 locations

Chandigarh, Oct 26 (UNI) Punjab Police arrested 231 people and seized two weapons during a statewide crackdown on suspected gangster networks on Monday, conducting 543 raids as part of its continuing campaign against organised crime.
The operations, carried out on the 279th day of the *Gangstran Te Vaar* campaign, targeted identified locations linked to gangsters and their associates across Punjab, according to an official police statement.
Police also arrested seven proclaimed offenders and initiated preventive action against 184 individuals.
The campaign was launched on January 20 under Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, with district police units working alongside the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) to identify and disrupt criminal networks.
Police claimed that cumulative arrests under the campaign had reached 80,898, reflecting the scale of enforcement operations undertaken across the state.
However, the department did not disclose how many of those arrested had subsequently been charged or convicted, or provide a breakdown of their alleged involvement in organised criminal activities.
"People can anonymously report gangster-related information through the Anti-Gangster Helpline number 93946-93946," the official police statement said.
The latest operation comes amid continuing concerns over gang-related violence, extortion and criminal intimidation in Punjab.
Police maintained that intelligence-based raids and coordinated district-level operations would continue as part of efforts to dismantle criminal networks.
