Punjab transfers Rs 3,722 crore to women under financial assistance scheme, minister says

Chandigarh, Oct 8 (UNI) The Punjab government has transferred nearly Rs 3,722 crore directly into the bank accounts of women beneficiaries under its Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, Social Security Minister Baljit Kaur said on Thursday.
She said Rs 2,602.46 crore was disbursed to more than 75.16 lakh women for July, August and September, while another Rs 1,118.93 crore was released to over 32 lakh beneficiaries as the first instalment of the second phase.
More than 79 lakh women have registered under the scheme, which the government expects will eventually benefit over one crore women.
"The Punjab Government is determined to ensure that no eligible woman is left behind in the journey towards economic empowerment," Kaur said.
Under the programme, eligible women aged 18 and above in the general category receive Rs 1,000 monthly, while Scheduled Caste women receive Rs 1,500.
The minister said the government planned annual expenditure of nearly Rs 12,000 crore, with the scheme intended to cover approximately 97 per cent of women in the state.
She described the programme as an initiative aimed at strengthening women's financial independence and social security.
