Haryana tightens security ahead of three-day power employees’ strike

Panchkula, Oct 22 (UNI) District administrations in Haryana have stepped up security and put emergency arrangements in place to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the three-day statewide strike called by the Haryana Electricity Employees and Engineers Joint Struggle Forum from October 22 to 24.
In Mahendragarh, District Magistrate Anupama Anjali has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, to prevent disruption of power supply, damage to electricity infrastructure and obstruction of officials and employees on duty.
The restrictions prohibit unauthorised gatherings of five or more people, demonstrations, sit-ins, gheraos, processions, blockades and sloganeering within 100 metres of designated power stations, substations, switching stations, pump houses, DHBVN and HVPNL offices, stores and other specified electricity installations. Carrying weapons, sticks, stones, sharp-edged objects or inflammable and explosive materials in these restricted areas has also been prohibited.
The administration has warned against tampering with electricity lines, transformers, poles and cables, damaging power infrastructure, threatening officials or obstructing their work. Content intended to incite violence or damage electricity installations has also been prohibited under the orders.
The restrictions came into force at 10 pm on October 21 and will remain effective until midnight on October 24. Violations may invite action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and other applicable provisions.
To safeguard electricity supply to hospitals, drinking water schemes, irrigation facilities, the district jail, courts, the Mini Secretariat and the Central University, the administration has ordered round-the-clock security at critical electricity installations. Police personnel, Home Guards and employees from revenue and other departments will be deployed in three shifts.
Sub-Divisional Magistrates and police officers will supervise security arrangements and conduct inspections, including at night. Shiv Raj Singh, Executive Engineer, Operations Division, Narnaul, has been appointed nodal officer to coordinate with the electricity department. Personnel on duty have been instructed to prevent unauthorised entry and immediately report emergencies to Dial 112 or the local police station.
In Fatehabad, the administration has established a dedicated control room to monitor electricity supply and address consumer complaints during the strike. Located in Room No. 45 on the first floor of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, the control room can be contacted at 01667-230018.
Staff have been deployed in three shifts—5 am to 1 pm, 1 pm to 9 pm and 9 pm to 5 am—to ensure continuous monitoring from October 22 to 24. Suresh Kumar Sardana, assistant in the FRA branch of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, has been appointed overall in-charge. Officials have been directed to ensure timely attendance and prompt action on electricity-related complaints to minimise inconvenience to consumers.
The district-level measures are aimed at maintaining law and order, protecting critical electricity infrastructure and ensuring that essential services continue to receive uninterrupted power throughout the strike period.
