Cong MP Vamsi Krishna Accuses Centre of Preventing Youth from Joining Protest in Delhi

Hyderabad, Oct 10 (UNI) Peddapalli Congress MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna on Saturday accused the Centre of attempting to prevent youth from participating in a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, alleging restrictions on transport services and the deployment of large numbers of security personnel to obstruct the demonstration.
In a statement, the MP criticised the Narendra Modi government, alleging that it was suppressing the voices of young people and undermining their democratic right to peaceful protest.
He claimed that 56 metro stations had been closed, bus services suspended and more than 40,000 police and Rapid Action Force personnel deployed in connection with the protest. He also alleged that citizens were being detained at airports, independent journalists were being held and internet services had been suspended within an approximately four-kilometre radius of Jantar Mantar.
Vamsi Krishna said the alleged restrictions were contrary to democratic values and compared the treatment of protesters to British colonial rule, referring to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
He said the situation underscored the need for continued efforts to safeguard democratic rights and protect the freedom of citizens to express their concerns peacefully.
Drawing parallels with India's freedom struggle, the MP said he and others would continue to raise their voices on issues affecting the public and fight to protect democratic principles.
