Welfare Schemes Will Ensure Congress Victory in Graduates’ MLC Polls: Telangana Dy CM Bhatti

Khammam, Oct10 (UNI) Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday called upon Congress leaders and workers to ensure a landslide victory for party candidate Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy in the Khammam–Nalgonda–Warangal Graduates’ MLC election by intensifying voter registration and highlighting the benefits of the state government’s welfare schemes.
Addressing a meeting organised by the Khammam District Congress Committee here, Bhatti urged party cadres to treat graduate voter registration as a movement and ensure that every eligible graduate was enrolled.
He called for a coordinated campaign involving meetings at the Assembly constituency, mandal and village levels.
He suggested appointing senior leaders as constituency in-charges to oversee voter registration and coordinate party activities.
He also pointed out that graduates who had registered previously would need to register afresh under the current election process.
He asked party workers to identify eligible graduates in Congress-supporting families and subsequently reach out to neutral voters and those favourably inclined towards the government’s welfare initiatives.
Highlighting the government's welfare measures, the Deputy Chief Minister said around 3.42 crore people from 1.06 crore families were receiving six kilograms of fine rice per person every month. Financial assistance under the Rythu Bharosa scheme had been extended to approximately 72 lakh farmers, while nearly 53 lakh beneficiaries were receiving free electricity for consumption of up to 200 units a month under the Gruha Jyothi scheme.
The government was also supplying free electricity to around 30 lakh agricultural pump sets and providing Cheyutha pensions to approximately 43 lakh beneficiaries, he said. Under the Rajiv Aarogyasri scheme, eligible families were entitled to medical coverage of up to ₹10 lakh each.
He further stated that fee reimbursement benefits were being provided to approximately 12.5 lakh students and that a breakfast programme, including a glass of milk, was being implemented for around 27 lakh government school students.
On housing, Bhatti said financial assistance of ₹5 lakh per house was being provided for the construction of 4.5 lakh houses under the first phase of the Indiramma Indlu scheme. The government was preparing to sanction another 2.5 lakh houses in the second phase, besides taking up the construction of one lakh houses for poor families in Hyderabad. The government was spending ₹40,000 crore on the housing programme, he added.
He said the government was working towards launching the Indiramma Bima scheme on November 19, under which a family would receive ₹5 lakh in insurance assistance in the event of the accidental death of its primary breadwinner.
The Deputy Chief Minister directed party leaders to prepare pamphlets explaining the benefits of welfare schemes and distribute them to households across the district.
Referring to Sarvotham Reddy's association with the Congress, he said the candidate's family had a longstanding relationship with the party and recalled the contributions of leaders such as Ramreddy Venkat Reddy and Damodar Reddy.
He urged party cadres to consider Sarvotham Reddy as the party's representative and work collectively for his victory.
Describing Khammam as a strong base for the Congress, Bhatti called upon workers to maintain unity and remain vigilant throughout the election process, from voter registration to polling day.
Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Tummala Nageswara Rao, along with MLAs Ramdas Naik, Matta Ragamayee and Koram Kanakaiah, also addressed the meeting. Khammam District Congress Committee president Nuthi Satyanarayana presided over the meeting.
