AI plane with 242 people on board crashes near Ahmedabad airport

Ahmedabad, June 12 (UNI) An Air India flight with 242 people on board and bound for London crashed near Ahmedabad airport this afternoon.
Details of casualties were not immediately known.
The incident took place shortly after takeoff. Rescue operations were being conducted and authorities began their investigation into the cause of the crash.
The Air India flight, a Boeing Dreamliner 787, crashed in a densely populated area near the airport. Immediately after the crash, local after residents rushed to the area to help with rescue efforts.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel rushed to Ahmedabad from Surat to assess the situation.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a discussion with the CM.
Air India in a post on X, said "Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025." It said Air India continues to ascertain the details.
