Maha: OBC community to get Govt land at Re 1 for holistic development

Nashik, Sep 29 (UNI) Maharashtra Revenue Minister and Chairman of the OBC Cabinet Sub-Committee, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, today directed officials to immediately submit a proposal to make land owned by the Revenue and other government departments available at a nominal rate of Re 1 to support the holistic development of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community and provide facilities to students.
Bawankule warned that administrative delays in implementing proposals discussed at previous meetings would not be tolerated. He said strict action would be taken against those obstructing the development initiatives for the OBC community.
He also instructed officials to ensure that the OBC community receives all facilities and financial assistance on a priority basis, on the lines of provisions made for other communities.
The fifth meeting of the OBC Cabinet Sub-Committee was held at Mantralaya under Bawankule's chairmanship, with discussions covering 12 key issues. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Gulabrao Patil, Environment and Climate Change Minister Pankaja Munde, Other Backward Bahujan Welfare Minister Atul Save, and senior officials from various departments attended the meeting.
Bawankule directed that at least two proposals should be placed for approval at every sub-committee meeting. He also called for the immediate submission of the overseas scholarship proposal for approval.
He further instructed officials to place a proposal concerning 16 individuals from the OBC community who died by suicide before the next committee meeting for consideration and approval.
Proposals relating to a Rs ₹300 crore allocation for Mahajyoti, hostel schemes and VJNT-related initiatives were also directed to be submitted for approval.
Forest Minister Naik strongly advocated filling all pending vacancies reserved for the OBC community in government services without delay. He emphasised that adequate funds must be allocated for OBC welfare schemes, similar to provisions made for other sections of society.
Bhujbal demanded that the OBC Corporation be provided with facilities and support on the lines of the Annasaheb Patil Economic Backward Development Corporation.
He also proposed establishing a 'Krantijyoti Mahatma Phule Samata Bhavan' on the lines of BARTI, with a substantial allocation of ₹200 crore. He directed officials to make a presentation on the proposal at the next meeting.
Bhujbal further suggested that funds be allocated for staging performances of Tritiya Ratna, a play written by Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, across Maharashtra.
Environment Minister Pankaja Munde expressed the expectation that a film depicting the inspirational life of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule should be produced.
Officials informed the meeting that several initiatives were being planned to mark the 300th birth anniversary year of Mahatma Phule. These include publishing his complete literary works, creating a grand tableau, releasing a calendar based on his life and organising a special marathon in Nagpur.
The meeting focused on accelerating welfare initiatives, expanding educational opportunities and ensuring equitable access to government resources for the OBC community.

The Maharashtra government’s Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection has constituted an inquiry committee under the chairmanship of Nashik District Collector Ayush Prasad through a government resolution dated September 29, 2026.

In another crucial meeting of the Cabinet Sub-committee on drought mitigation held on September 29 at Mantralaya in the Chief Secretary's chamber, Bawankule, who is also Chairman of Drought Mitigation Subcommittee, directed banks and credit societies to not send their employees to farmers' homes to recover loans during the drought.
