Tribal rights organisation to organise protest march to Mantralaya on Ocb 27

Mumbai, Oct 24 (UNI) Tribal rights organisation Shramjeevi Sanghatana on Saturday announced that it will organise a protest march from Bhiwandi in Thane district to the Mantralaya (state secretariat administrative building) in South Mumbai on October 27 from 11 am, seeking time-bound action on their demands, which includes pending Forest Rights Act claims and lack of government documentation like Aadhaar cards.
The protest march is scheduled to commence from the Mehfil Garden Dhaba near Bhiwandi in Thane, pass through Thane city, and then head directly towards the Mantralaya (state secretariat administrative building) in South Mumbai, according to the tribal rights organisation organising the protest march.
Addressing a press conference here Shramjivi Sanghatana spokesperson Sita Ghatal said that the protest march will be held under the banner of the Samvidhan Hakka Sangharsh Morcha (constitutional rights agitation front).
“After 80 years of independence, the tribal community is no longer prepared to accept only vague verbal assurances from the political leaders and the government. Our march will not be withdrawn until we get clear written decisions from the government," Ghatal told media persons.
“Our primary demands include guaranteed free and quality education for tribal students upto Class 12, and a written commitment that all pending Forest Rights Act claims will be fully processed and settled by December 15 this year," Ghatal said.
Stating that preparations to hold the protest march are on, Ghatal said that thousands of tribals lack Aadhaar cards and basic documentation even today.
Ghatal said that the tribal community lacks land rights, education, documentation and employment, adding that all demands are based on these basic issues.
She stated that the Shramjeevi Sanghatana is organising the protest march to resolve thousands of pending Forest Rights Act (FRA) claims by December 15, 2026, and get the government to formally hand over land titles to eligible tribal farmers.
Ghatal stated that the tribal rights organisation demands free, guaranteed and compulsory high-quality education for tribal children from ages 3 to 18 (upto Class 12), filling up all vacant teaching positions as well as securing free treatment at all government medical colleges.
The Shramjivi Sanghatana has demanded simplification of birth and death registrations as well as the issuance of official government identity cards like Aadhaar cards and caste certificates, by accepting locally available proofs.
Ghatal stated that the tribal rights organisation also demands the proper implementation and timely wage delivery under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), along with dedicated special drives to extend welfare schemes like Ladki Bahin Yojana to all eligible tribal women.
