Maha: Advocate moves MHRC over electrocution deaths at Lalbaug Mahaganpati pandal, minor among 2 dead

Mumbai, Sep 20 (UNI) A complaint has been lodged before the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MHRC) over the accidental deaths due to electrocution at the Mahaganpati pandal in Kalachowki area of the city, seeking action against all public pandals in the state.
The complaint has been filed by Bombay High Court Advocate Ashish Rai.
In his complaint, Rai has sought immediate directions against various authorities, including Mumbai Police, BMC, BEST, Maharashtra government, Mantralaya and Mahaganpati Mandal, Kalachowki, for alleged negligence during Ganeshotsav.
The complaint comes in the wake of an incident at Kalachowki, Lalbaug, where two persons, including a minor girl, died and four others were injured after coming in contact with live electric current at the pandal.
The petitioner has alleged delay in registration of First Information Report, lack of crowd management in pandals, negligence in electrical safety and failure to ensure safety of devotees.
He has urged the Commission to issue immediate interim orders for safety audits of all public Ganesh pandals across the state, as several days of Ganeshotsav are still remaining.
