Neela Vikhe Patil from Maharashtra elected to Swedish Parliament

Ahilyanagar, Sep 20 ( UNI) The Vikhe Patil family, which has made a significant mark in politics, the cooperative sector and education in Maharashtra, has now secured a presence in international politics with 41-year-old Neela Vikhe Patil being elected as a Member of the Swedish Parliament from Stockholm.
The Green Party, with which Neela is associated, has a strong focus on environmental protection, renewable energy and green politics. Her election has attracted attention in Maharashtra and across India, particularly because of her family's longstanding public and cooperative legacy in Ahilyanagar.
Neela Vikhe Patil won the election from the Stockholm constituency to Sweden's 349-member Parliament, known as the Riksdag. Her election has brought recognition to the fourth generation of the Vikhe Patil family on an international political platform.
Born in Sweden, Neela spent part of her childhood in Ahilyanagar and belongs to a prominent family with a long association with Maharashtra's cooperative movement and public life. She is the great-granddaughter of Sahakar Maharshi Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil, who pioneered Asia's first cooperative sugar factory. She is also the granddaughter of former union minister late Balasaheb Vikhe Patil and the daughter of educationist Dr Ashok Vikhe Patil.
Maharashtra Water Resources Minister and chairman of the Maratha sub-committee of the state Cabinet, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, is her uncle.
Neela studied economics and law at the University of Gothenburg's School of Business, Economics and Law and also holds an MBA degree. She has been actively associated with Sweden's Green Party for several years.
During the tenure of former Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, she worked at the Prime Minister's Office as a political adviser on matters related to finance, taxation and housing. She has also served as a councillor on the Stockholm City Council, gaining experience in both national and local governance.
According to the information available on the recent Swedish national election, left-wing opposition parties collectively secured 176 of the 349 seats in the Riksdag, while the outgoing conservative bloc secured 173 seats. It was against this political backdrop that Neela Vikhe Patil's election to Parliament assumed significance.
Neela's entry into the Swedish Parliament marks a new chapter for the Vikhe Patil family and represents the emergence of a Maharashtra-linked political figure on the international stage. UNI SP CDS
