Rohit Pawar launches attack on Maha Govt over Ajit Pawar case, drought and farm loan waiver

Dharashiv, Sep 20 (UNI) NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) MLA Rohit Pawar on Sunday launched a broad attack on the Maharashtra government, raising questions over the investigation into the death of Ajit Pawar, the delay in declaring drought and the implementation of the farm loan waiver scheme.
Pawar said he would soon make a detailed presentation on the circumstances surrounding Ajit Pawar’s death.
He questioned why the investigation had not been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), despite Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar having sought a CBI probe. He also alleged that the ruling establishment was attempting to suppress the matter.
These allegations have been made by Pawar; the claims would require verification from the concerned authorities.
Turning to the drought situation, Pawar accused the state government of delaying relief to farmers despite widespread crop losses caused by deficient rainfall.
He pointed to Karnataka, where the government has declared drought in 101 taluks across 24 districts and announced a 12-month moratorium on repayment of agricultural and allied-sector loans in affected areas.
Pawar said Maharashtra should also take immediate decisions instead of waiting for further deterioration in the situation.
He has previously demanded immediate drought declaration and financial assistance for affected farmers.
He also criticised what he described as symbolic political banner campaigns over the farmers’ distress, saying that political leaders should focus on securing actual financial assistance for affected cultivators.
He claimed that if Ajit Pawar had been in the government, the decision to declare drought would not have been delayed.
“Dada was a leader who understood farmers,” Pawar said, referring to Ajit Pawar.
He further criticised ruling leaders, alleging that some were travelling to Delhi and others to London while farmers were waiting for government assistance.
On the farm loan waiver, Pawar claimed that only around 20 per cent of farmers had received the benefit while nearly 80 per cent were still waiting.
The Maharashtra government, however, has maintained that it has provided substantial financial assistance to farmers, including support through the loan waiver, and has said provisions under SDRF and NDRF norms are available for the current crisis.
Pawar also alleged that the BJP had taken the Finance Ministry away from the NCP, linking the development to what he described as the government’s approach towards farmers and the rural economy.
The Maharashtra government has announced that crop damage assessment through panchnamas will begin from October 5, while the issue of drought declaration and relief measures remains a major political point of contention. UNI SP SAS
