NFR holds successful trial of electric train between Agartala and Silchar

Agartala, May 24 (UNI) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) completed a successful trial run of electric passenger trains between Agartala and Arunachal Station near Silchar of South Assam on Friday to mark a new chapter towards railway line electrification.
According to NFR officials, the inaugural electric traction service of Agartala-Khongsang Jan Shatabdi Express started from Agartala early in the morning with passengers. The return trial service was held later in the afternoon.
Railway officials conducted thorough monitoring of both journeys to evaluate operational performance and passenger feedback. These trials are components of a Rs 46 crore railway electrification initiative launched in 2022, designed to connect Tripura to the national railway network through electric locomotives.
The scheme encompasses electrification of primary routes, aiming to decrease diesel engine usage, reduce carbon output, and improve service reliability and speed across the region. The electrification will deliver considerable advantages over time, including lower operating expenses, environmentally conscious transport, and reduced journey duration.
Once fully operational, the Agartala-Arunachal electric route is expected to strengthen connections between Tripura and other regions, supporting improvements in commerce, tourism, and transportation.
