Odisha BJP accuses Naveen Patnaik of backing ‘anti-India forces’

Bhubaneswar, Oct 21 (UNI) The Odisha BJP on WEdnesday accused BJD president and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik of backing “anti-India forces”, alleging that his demand for the release of Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das reflected support for attempts at a “Bangladeshi-style violent regime change”.
In a post on X, the BJP questioned Patnaik’s stand, pointing out that he had served as Odisha Chief Minister for 24 years before his party lost power in 2024. It accused him of supporting “anarchists” and “foreign-funded anti-India forces” and linked his position to his alleged role in allowing thousands of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to settle in the State.
The BJP further alleged that these immigrants had been enrolled as voters and criticised Patnaik for opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Asserting that Odisha’s people were peace-loving and respected India’s sovereignty, the BJP said national sovereignty was more important than “temporary political PR”.
Patnaik had earlier demanded an urgent review of the judicial custody of Ranka and Das, arguing that hoisting the national flag, even in a prohibited area, should not warrant prolonged detention. He urged the judiciary and executive to uphold the rule of law and constitutional rights, warning that young people should not lose faith in the country’s institutions.UNI MK AAB
